Most Americans incorrectly assume that chemicals in use today – and the everyday products that contain them, such as plastics, cosmetics, body care products, toys, and furniture – are fully tested and safe for use. But the truth is, when it comes to chemicals, no government agency is protecting our health. The Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow advocates for laws, regulations and corporate policies that prevent harm from toxic chemicals. We will:
Pass Massachusetts legislation to protect public health
Fight for new state laws to:
Protect our state from toxic per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS);
Protect children from toxic chemicals in children’s products
Advance clean energy without relying on toxic chemicals;
Prevent development of toxic “chemical recycling” (plastic burning) in Massachusetts communities.
Protect Massachusetts’ landmark Toxic Use Reduction Act (TURA)
TURA is a Massachusetts law that was enacted in 1989 and amended in 2006. It established the Toxics Use Reduction Institute at University of Massachusetts Lowell, which helps businesses reduce their use and discharge of hazardous chemicals. AHT supports the ongoing effective implementation of the TURA program.
Use our consumer power to demand safer products
Who’s minding the store? We are! AHT partners with Toxic Free Future on the Mind the Store Campaign, an effort to convince the nation’s top retailers to get toxic chemicals out of their stores.
